How about a battleship?
« on: December 28, 2016, 10:12:26 AM »
Admittedly, this was one you do for the sheer novelty of it. (And I love pop up rinks that come with a good tale to tell later.)

The LA Kings sponsor some holiday pop up rinks, and while cruising my options, I saw "battleship" and was suckered right in. It's located on the USS Iowa, which is moored in San Pedro, CA. It's small. The ice wasn't great (and not exactly level, for that matter), but did I mention battleship???  I went at night and it wasn't very crowded. It was quite breezy and chilly because it was on the water.  There were some coin operated lockers for your stuff, and a vendor for snacks. Clearly not meant for serious skating, but ridiculously fun and made for entertaining pictures.

If the cannon were functional, you could have a real blast skating to a routine choreographed to the 1812 Overture.

Well, what it lacked it artistry, it made up for in flailing.
