Software to cut music?
« on: January 21, 2014, 05:30:20 PM »
Hello!
I am wondering what program you guys use to cut music?
I tried using audacity a million times, but it won't let me make more than one cut of the music. After I cut one piece out, it won't let me cut any other parts.   :(
Are there any other good programs where I can easily combine 2 tracks and cut pieces out of it?

I use GarageBand (Mac). I only cut easy pieces of music though...if I struggle with it I pass the job off to my coach - who also uses GarageBand but has more experience then me.

I use audacity. It is definitely capable of making more than one cut, though it's not the most obvious piece of software out there.

Sometimes I'll copy sections that I want to "cut" onto a new track and mute the master track so I can hear how the cuts sound. Then once I'm finished, I either delete the master one or just export the track with the cuts. YMMV.

A professional musician friend who helped me cut music once used a piece of software called Live. It looked pretty sophisticated and had some neat features, but it is not free.

Another Audacity user here. You can definitely do more than 1 cut. I did it similarly to alejeather I think. I imported my origional track, saved that, then used a copy of it to play around with and cut to new tracks and move around (and change the tempo!). I ended up with various parts to my music all on different tracks then only brought them all together when I was happy with the cut and length etc. I would up with lots of saved versions to get the version I liked.

PS Save often!! And save various versions - you can guarantee you'll like the previous cut more, especially if you just deleted it!

I use audition. I used to use Garageband but Audition gives me more control over the accuracy of my cut.

I use Audacity as well, it's a great free alternative if you don't have access to Garageband. I never figured out how to cut music in Garageband once I taught myself Audacity but I've heard it works well too.

Do you know any good instruction manuals - free or otherwise - on using Audacity? Starting from basics?

I used GoldWave. It's a paid software program, but I like it much better than audacity.
