Jason went for it in the LP too, stood up on two feet, and was called 3A<, which is an improvement! Frankly I'm just impressed he stayed on his feet, he was that crossed up on the landing.

He won by 24 points in the end, not quite as good as Josh's 36  :P I am sure they will banter about it.

What happened to Rachel?

The JGP in Slovenia starts with the draw tomorrow night, and it's a clash of heavyweights - Han Yan vs Joshua Farris with the interloper Boyang Jin! (Still amazed USFSA didn't quickly switch things around so Josh didn't have to face Han yet, but this could get INTERESTING.)

Go Jason! I hope Rachel Flatt bounces back by Skate America, reports sound devastating...

Venue for Opera on Ice in Italy, wow just wow.

I'd kill to go to opera on ice. I heard about it when. I was there two years ago but it happened after my study abroad was over.

Men's event in JGP Slovenia = bloodbath. And of course Yan Han caught fever AGAIN just in time for competition.

Rachel Flatt is apparently out of shape, scoring just over 100 combing SP and LP in a recent small competition, without reports of injury.

Actually I had heard he told his fans there was nothing physically wrong with him, he just didn't skate well.

You have to hand it to Joshua Farris though - he really fought for that FS and came home with a 24 point win. Not bad!

Farris, Jason Brown and Boyang Jin have all now secured their spots at JGPF.

Yan Han's 9/29 weibo is back/hip/shoulder pain, definitely not in top physical condition. I just hope it's not mental because he is chronically having issues at competitions :/

Little Nathan is next stop, right? And Johnny Weir's debut at Finlandia. Lucky Japanese fans with Medal Winners Open and Japan Open and Champions on Ice..!! :swoon

Half way through JGP already, time is flying.

Just started watching the performances from the Finlandia Trophy on YouTube.

Weir's quad looks good, a little scary on the landing and he definitely needs speed/stamina, but all in all, bravo for Johnny.  I hope he has a good season and doesn't get bogged down with controversy.

Dornbush was really good, although I felt like he was out of synch with the music at points:

Great power and speed.  Very interesting spin position at the end - sort of a donut spin with the blade pulled in.  Looked a little slow and shaky, but it should be fantastic by the time he reaches Nationals.

Is it wrong to say I enjoyed Dornbush's music far more than Weir's?  I'm just tired of elevator music and delicate classical pieces.  I want to see men skate showy numbers.

Lysacek just withdrew from Skate America, according to icenetwork:

Armin Mahbanoozadeh is replacing him in the lineup.

Speedy recovery to Evan!! According to FSU reports, last week he was still in excellent shape. Tribune article says
Quote
Lysacek said he was not worried that the injury, which he sustained in early August, could keep him out for the season... He said the injury occurred when his leg slipped on gravel while he was doing warm-up lunges outside the rink... "I kept skating on it for a few days, and that possibly made it worse," he said.  "When I couldn't walk or skate, I stopped."

And Miki Ando is out of GP series because she does not have a coach.

I spent a little time snooping around the 'net, looking for results and performances from the Medal Winner's Open 2012.  Found this webpage that gave results and video links.

I don't want to think about Skate Canada.

Everytime I do I just want to fly around the world and give Artur Gachinski a great big hug and tell him he really is good and he needs to trust himself. And also that it wasn't THAT bad...really...I swear...  :'(

Somehow ran into this photo from 2008 junior worlds, can't believe it's merely 4 years between now and then... tears.

Did anyone else find it odd that the Russian men were undermarked in, um, Cup of Russia?

Menshov definitely should have been above Brezina and I wasn't all that impressed with Dornbush and thought Gachinski should have had him even with that free skate.

Anyway, now I'm looking forward to the J/GPF. The US are going to have two Junior men in the final, and no Senior men. lolwat.

Japan nationals men's event is such a bloodbath... Extremely competitive and well skated, definitely not "last man left standing" kind of competition. Wow just wow. Nervous for long programs tomorrow.

It sure looked that way. I missed it, I was finishing my Christmas shopping.

Looking forward to Russian Nationals too - hoping Artur gives me a nice Christmas present!

Quite miffed I then have to wait a whole month after that for US Nationals.

Being a skating fan is tiring. Oh well. At least I have news to tide me over - I heard that Jason Brown is landing beautiful 3A-3Ts now in practice ;)

Kozuka, Oda, Machilda off the podium. Crazy that 3 men with the top 10 SB score cannot make it out of their nationals. No worlds, no 4cc, end of season.  ???

Congratulations to Evgeni Plushenko on winning his TENTH Russian National title and SIXTIETH gold medal!

He, Voronov, and Menshov are the likely team for Worlds. Gachinski finished fourth.

...okay, okay I'm worried about Gachinski. He was complaining of numbness in his legs and he took his skates off very fast after his performance.

Meanwhile, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva led after the short program, but withdrew due to illness today.

Clearly I should never sleep! I went to bed at 1am because I was hearing from all sides that she was definitely withdrawn and the doctor had forbidden her to skate, and then when I woke up I discovered she won!  :o

Mishin must be mighty proud of how tough his skaters are!
