Title: CW Skating
Post by: Isk8NYC on March 13, 2012, 08:21:26 AM
I thought some videos of clockwise (CW) skaters demonstrating elements would be helpful.
gofigureskating has a YouTube channel with alot of demos.

ETA: Rats! I was duped - these are videos of a CCW skater that the poster reversed digitally.
Sorry.

Thanks a lot  88)  That just sent me into an hour of watching skating videos on youtube!  So, to drag this thread just a tad OT, I found a great video of slow motion jumps, but CCW.

I got lucky because I had a coach who was also a clockwise skater.

I would like to know if upper level CW skaters are in general, as a group, more likely than CCW skaters to be either better technical or better artistic skaters.

I don't think you can group CW skaters as more likely to be better technical or artistic skaters- they seem to vary just as widely as CCW skaters are.  (Besides which, to say that CW skaters are more artistic than CCW skaters would be to say CCW skaters are more technical- and I don't think you can group them either.)

I skate CW, but now that I'm on loop and flip I wish I didn't.  I just don't have enough strength on my left side...
Stupid rotational direction.

This is an impressive demo from a CCW skater practicing everything CW:

The spins were more challenging to her than the jumps!

Spins are SO hard in the opposite direction!

I'm a CW skater, though I don't know if I should be.  My turns were slightly better CW so that was the way I went, but I'm right handed and I think going CCW might have been better for me in the long run.  I can do the waltz, salchow, toe loop, and loop in the opposite direction.  My group coach likes to challenge me by doing jumps in my direction, so of course I had to try his!  :)  Spins, though... I can barely do a twizzle CCW without getting dizzy!

Sometimes my coach tries to demonstrate CW, and I have to ask her to do it the other way.  I'm so used to reversing the instructions in my head!

So true. I get twice dizzier practicing them for twizzles.
