It's interesting to keep track of personal bests for Canadian skaters, so I'll try to do that in this thread for the remainder of this season.
There were several personal bests at the first day of Skate Canada. Leaving aside the short dance, where there really isn't much basis for comparison yet, there were personal bests in the women's short program and pairs short program.
In the women's event, Amelie Lacoste's score of 55.30 just beat her previous ISU personal best of 55.10 from last year's Skate Canada event. It's also the best score she has ever had in any competition, ISU or not. Myriane Samson's score of 51.62 just beat her previous ISU personal best for the short program of 51.60, established at last season's 4CC Championship. However, she has had higher scores at other competitions, such as Canadians last season (53.51).
In the pairs event Duhamel/Radford's short program score of 54.80 was by definition a new ISU personal best since this was their first ISU competition. However, it was also their best short program score to date, beating their previous best of 51.81 from Nebelhorn. Moore-Towers/Moscovitch's short program score of 53.68 was a new ISU personal best for them, beating their previous ISU personal best of 51.14 from last season's Skate Canada. It does not beat their best score ever of 54.86 from the Isabelle Henderson competition earlier this season, however.
Finally, Lawrence/Swieger's short program score of 56.14 was far higher than their previous ISU personal best of 48.64 from the World Junior Championships in 2009. It does not beat their best score ever of 58.22 from last season's Canadian Championships, however.
