What are your "dream" skating blades?
« on: August 16, 2011, 04:05:56 PM »
Dd's skates are held up some there in the US so I am having second thoughts about the blades.  So if you could any new blades, what would you choose?

I wanted to get the Jackson Ultima Lite blade when I was getting my skates but my fitter didn't know enough about it to let me get it. She said she didn't know if it would fit on a sharpening machine or if you'd need a special jig for it. :(

The Ultima Lites or Gold Seal Revolutions.

I'm pretty happy with Ultima Matrix Legacy's.  I don't think any of the more expensive blades will do the skating for me, so I really like these.

I wanted the Lite's for awhile, but decided I don't really like the look on the ice when I've seen a few more.

One's that will majically make me into a gold level ice dancer !

Unfortunaely I haven't found them yet, so will have to be content with being a bronze level dancer trying to re-learn ice dance after (some medical problems ) being off ice for awhile - ain't no fun in getting old !!!

Gold Seals.  They are expensive (less so now in Canada thanks to the exchange rate) - but, since switching to them 6 months ago from Aces and Ultima Lites:

Skater 1:
- double axel
- two triples
- Level 2 step sequences with +GOE
- spins that are fast, centred and +GOE
- better edges
- quiet skating
- clean landings
- higher PCS overall
- more height in jumps and more controlled takeoffs

Skater 2:
- axel
- several doubles
- quiet edges
- no more complaints from judges about "scratchy turns" or "noisy edges"
- faster, centred spins
- better PCS

And, weirdly enough, for both - less sharpenings ... even the Lites .. the Gold Seals hold an edge better.

I love my gold seals too! They are so so smooth. I tried to explain the difference between my old blades and them and I told the person it's like going from a 1995 corolla to a brand new $100,000 Mercedes. They both drive but the more expensive is so smooth.

Anyway my dream blades would be a dance blade on a pair of dance boots, only bc that would mean I'm good enough at dance to need them.

I would love a more stable dance blade - like maybe a shortened Gold Seal... I love the idea of smoother flow but can't stand the thought of a long tail anymore... sigh...

I love the look of the Ultima Lite blades, but I'm toughing it out for now.
