What's your favorite stretch?
« on: October 02, 2013, 09:46:21 AM »
We all need to stretch for flexibility and extension.  What's your favorite stretch and how often do you do it?

For me, it's the Warrior 2 Pose/stretch from Yoga/Pilates/Wii Fit (lol):

I am not very flexible. Except my open hips. My hams and inner thighs are very tight so my spirals stink. My favorite stretch is something we used to do in ballet as a kid, that the instructor would always yell at me for. We'd spread our legs, lean forward, and try to palm the floor. I could never get my palms flat. Instructor thought I was being difficult. No really, I couldn't. And I was probably the only ballet student who couldn't do the splits.

In college, we used to do this stretch in colorguard. I really hated that I couldn't do this so I practiced and practiced and finally could almost get my palm down. Years later, I can palm the floor. So yea, that's my "favorite" stretch because it's my nemesis.
If you're not falling, you're not working hard enough...

Seated hamstring stretch, specifically, this position:

I credit this stretch with finally getting me my forward splits in both directions.

What my one yoga video calls "constructive rest" where you lie on your back on the floor for ten minutes with your legs bent (knees touching, feet hip width apart) and "let gravity do its work".

After the first few minutes you can feel/hear your spine sliding back into shape.
Yes I'm in with the 90's. I have a skating blog. http://icedoesntcare.blogspot.com/

The original P90X stretch video.  60 minutes, starting with your head and neck, ending with your toes.  Best thing to do on a non-skating day.

Hands to toes... ah. In high school, I could only touch halfway on my shins. Now, my wrists touch the toes!  ;D
