I think the event has been postponed indefinitely.

That's too bad for the kids, though.  I was in one of those tidal waves once when our above-ground pool wall burst and swept me out onto the lawn. It's scary, especially with the metal edges passing by.

Disastrous... I feel for the residents. Wonder if the group also got fined by the city?

No residents, it was downtown.  I don't think any actual damage was done.  It was just funny - I mean, who thinks you can create a skating rink by essentially freezing a makeshift wading pool?  They're trying to set this thing up on a plaza area, and are trying to freeze it naturally, without any kind of chillers.  They tried a second time, with a much smaller ice surface, but the weather just hasn't been cooperating.  If we get a cold snap, I suppose they'll try again.

Meanwhile, the town I live in has successfully installed an outdoor rink on a plaza this year, but they set up real boards, brought in chillers, and a little zamboni.  It's helped to raise the visibility of skating in our community.

That is kind of a funny story Clarice.

We had perfect weather for an outdoor rink lately but today the deep freeze ended and I am sure there are lots of sad kids looking at the wading pools in their backyards tonight.

Nice.  It has been a good winter for an outdoor rink.

Rink was very good, then a wild mild spell, like spring, now good again, but it has been a battle with periodic snow and flurries trying to flood it. water and snow= slush :'(
